Summer learning program kicks off with parade in Rock Island

Local kids hold a parade to get excited for summer reading

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Spring Forward Learning Center and the Rock Island Library are partnering together for summer learning. Nearly 400 students are taking part in the Summer Enrichment Initiative. They kicked off the program at the Rock Island Academy with a parade and celebration. A few friends helped out as well, including the River Bandit's mascot, Rascal.
Dan McNeil, SFLC Executive Director "We have fun activities all day long but we also concentrate on literacy and STEM and other subjects to ensure that kids don't have that summer slide when they are off for the summer months."
Students who are participating will receive free books and other gifts to encourage them to acheive their summer reading goals.
