Traveling piano shares music

Quad City Symphony Orchestra creates interactive display

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Figge Art Museum has a new exhibit that they are encouraging people sit down and play.

"After one day we had about five or six people play," said Quad City Symphony Orchestra Education Director Marc Zyla.  "It's just cool to see people walk up to the piano and see the smile on their face when they see that yes, they too can make music. "

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra is celebrating their season, which is entitled Joined by a River. To celebrate, the group joined with Davenport Central AP art classes to create a piano decorated with unique, Quad Cities art.

The piano is going to tour the Quad Cities, stopping at eight different locations. People are encouraged to sit and play the piano, whether they know how to or not.

"I think that music above all else is something that can bring people together," said Zyla. "My personal hope, as it's related to my life, is that people can share the similar experiences I've had in my life around music."

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra wants people to take pictures or videos at the piano as well, and share them. They are using the hashtag #LetMusicFlowQC and encouraging people to send snapchats to QCSymphony.

The piano is at the Figge Art Museum until Jan. 22. Then it will head to the Putnam Museum.
