Upcoming benefit to help family of local child battling rare disease

Hayden Ponce diagnosed with Krabbe disease

EAST MOLINE, Ill. - A Coal Valley, Illinois family is dealing with a disease you may have never heard about.

Their six-month-old daughter Hayden is suffering from Krabbe Disease. It affects only one in 100,000 children. Most don't make it to the age of two and right now there's no cure. Nic and Kilie Ponce are hosting a benefit to help pay for medical expenses as they continue treatment.

The benefit is Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Leisure Time Sports on Avenue of the Cities in East Moline. There will be tacos, raffle items, and baked goods. All money raised will help the family with medical bills and expenses. There is also a Gofundme page where you can help them out even if you can't make it to the benefit. You can find that by clicking here.
