Woman shot in Galesburg

Victim is reportedly in stable condition

One woman was found shot in Galesburg after officers responded to a report of gunfire on Sunday.

The Galesburg Police Department responded just before 1:15 a.m. to the 600 block of West Tompkins Street for a report of gunfire. While responding, officers were advised that a woman had been injured and an ambulance was dispatched to the area of the 500 block of West Tompkins Street.

Officers located a woman, later identified as Autumn L V Ponder, 20, who was the victim of a single gunshot wound. Ponder was transported to Galesburg Cottage Hospital and later transferred to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. Ponder was in stable condition as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.

This incident remains under investigation by the Galesburg Police Department. Investigators do not believe the shooting was a random act.
