Hawkeye Headquarters web extra: McCaffery and Baer on starter vs. 6th man

Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery and Nicholas Baer were in town Tuesday and the two of them talked with Hawkeye Headquarters' Adam Rossow about the role the Big Ten's reigning Sixth Man of the Year will play this season.

"I expect him to just keep getting better," McCaffery said. "He was one of the best players in the league last year -- Sixth Man of the Year. I think he would probably like to move into the starting lineup, but he was very comfortable coming off the bench... probably preferred coming off the bench last year. I think he'd probably like to take that next step."

Baer, not surprisingly, said he'll fill any role he's asked to play.

"It's just kind of one of those things where, "What does the team need?" Baer said. "And we'll kind of just go from there. I mean, it really doesn't matter to me, coming off the bench or starting."

McCaffery said his decision-making process is simple.

"What I try to always do, is if you deserve to start I start you," McCaffery said.
