Jake Barr, a standout athlete from Moline High School in Moline, Illinois, has decided to continue his education and running career at Augustana. He will enroll this fall and plans on being a member of the Viking track & field and cross country programs led by Coach Paul Olsen.

The 6’ 2”, 130-pound Barr was a four-year letter winner in both track and cross country for Coach Tauwon Taylor at Moline. He won Most Improved honors for the Maroons in both sports during his sophomore year.

In track, Barr competed in the 400 (with a personal best of :54.0), 800 (2:06) and 1600 (4:49) at Moline. In cross country, his best time over three miles was 16:13 at the 2012 Leavey Invitational in St. Charles, Illinois. As a senior, he
finished 14th at the Western Big Six meet in Quincy, Illinois and 32nd at the IHSA Class 3A Regional in Normal, Illinois.

Jake is the son of Jerry and Ellen Barr of Moline, Illinois. He is a National Honor Society member, a Junior Rotarian and winner of the “Excellence in Spanish” I & III awards. He’s planning on accounting and business administration majors at
Augustana.

Barr will be joining a Viking track & field program that owns 16 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin outdoor titles.
Twelve of those have come under Olsen, who has also guided his teams to 14 top ten national finishes, including fifth place in 2014. In December, Olsen was inducted into the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association Hall of Fame and was that organization’s Division III “National Coach of the Year” in 2008. Olsen also heads the Augustana cross country program, which has achieved 11 top ten national finishes under his guidance.
