Steve Long, veteran anchor and journalist, joined the CBS4 News team in January of 2012. Steve Co-Anchors the weeknight editions of CBS4 News at 5, 6 and 10.
"As a child, my dream was to be a broadcast journalist" says Steve, "I’m thankful for every moment that I get to live that dream."
Steve is a Midwestern guy, born in Illinois and has covered news in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois during his career. He’s won more than 30 regional journalism awards for everything from feature reporting to investigative coverage. These include a Regional Emmy Award, as well as First Place “Best Newswriter” (Downstate) from the Illinois Associated Press, and “First Place, Overall Excellence in Reporting-Small Market” from the Iowa Broadcast News Association.
When historic flooding occurred in the region surrounding Sioux City, Iowa in 2011, Steve served as the Public Information Officer for the Southeastern South Dakota Flood Incident. “It was a great opportunity to serve my community in a time of need, and be part of the work that goes on behind the scenes during a natural disaster,” he says.
“My greatest joys are my 2 children” Steve says, “They are unquestionably my number one priority and I love them with all my heart”.
Steve says his favorite part of the job is the fascinating people he gets to meet. Not surprising, considering his degree is in Psychology. He loves the opportunity to share stories about local people living inspirational lives.
He loves to be active in the community and enjoys participating in, and emceeing, a variety of local events. His favorite hobbies are gardening, jogging, and bike riding. His favorite season is Summer, favorite food is pizza, and favorite holiday is Christmas.
