Another round of snow could surprise many Tuesday night

Even more snow is likely after that big round of snow on Monday

QUAD CITIES - Monday turned out to be quite the wild weather day with snow starting around lunchtime and not letting up until well into the evening as predicted. Snow totals ended up around 5 inches for the Quad Cities and totals south of I-80 got upwards of 8-9 inches in some areas but even though this was one of the larger snow storms we have had, we aren't done just yet.

A second system is expected to come through Tuesday night and with it will come several more inches. This snowfall could be quite a surprise for some people since the main weather story for the beginning of the week has been how much snow we got on Monday.

A low pressure system is going to move through central and southern Illinois bringing localized heavy snow totals especially in Norther Missouri and some areas well to the south of the Local 4/Fox 18 area. Significant snow totals could still add up especially for our southernmost counties. A winter weather advisory is in effect until Wednesday morning.

The majority of the snow will come in the counties with the winter weather advisories but the entire area will likely at least see a little more snow. With how cold these temperatures have been, it will not take a lot of moisture to generate high amounts. The snow is likely to start by 6pm for areas far south and west of the Quad Cities and it will hit the metro area around 7-8 and last for the majority of the night. This should all come to an end by 6-7am Wednesday morning.

SNOW TOTALS:
North of I-80: 1-3 inches expected but more confidence closer to 1 inch.
Metro QC: 2-3 inches are likely with the chance of localized higher totals.
South of I-80: 3-5 inches likely with 5 inches where there are advisories and localized 6-7 inch totals.

A couple more rounds of snow are possible this week even beyond this one. The Quad Cities has been in the bullseye this week and we could add another half a foot to a foot of snow towards this years total before all is said and done this week. The system on Friday and Saturday looks to potentially add half a foot of snow at most as of right now.
