33rd annual Mississippi Valley Blues Festival opens today

Blues music has been a part of many Quad Citizans’ Independence Day celebrations for years.

The Mississippi Valley Blues Society annual Blues Fest is set to begin today.

The event brings together local musicians and Blues education.

This year, it all begins with a tribute to Ellis Kell, a prominant figure in the festival’s history.

Despite recend flooding, the event is still scheduled to being at 5 pm tonight.

Mississippi Blues Society board member Rusty Unterzuber says that the festival is a great event for community members to enjoy music, experience Blues, and even learn a thing or two.

“If you have a young child who wants to see what another young person can do to perform, you ought to come see the Winter Blues All Stars.”

Doors open today at 4 pm and tomorrow at noon.
