State representatives Tony McCombie and Mike Halpin appeared on 4 The Record this week. This is the second part of that conversation.
Governor JB Pritzker signed legislation this week that requires gun dealers be licensed by the state.
Democrats passed it last year and held onto it until the new governor took office.
Halpin and McCombie discussed whether that tactic is necessary rather than debate it again with new lawmakers and how much of a difference this law will make.
Pritzker promises a progressive income tax to replace the flat tax rate that exists now.
That still requires a constitutional amendment.
McCombie and Halpin talked about the timeframe for that and if the leadership has any idea what the different rates will be.
Pot, sports betting and infrastructure
We couldn’t get to everything during the program, but Halpin and McCombie also shared how soon they expect to see legislation on infrastructure, legalizing recreational marijuana and for legalizing sports wagering.
