Swalwell proposes ‘college bargain’ to address student debt crisis

4 The Record

Thanks for checking out this web extra from my interview with Congressman Eric Swalwell on 4 The Record.

The Democratic candidate for president’s agenda is similar to the rest of the field in a lot of ways.

One area where he’s somewhat different is in his approach to the college debt issue.

He’s been active on addressing the student debt issue and introduced several pieces of legislation, things like forgiving student debt for taking government jobs, allowing the responsibility of student loans to be dropped when declaring bankruptcy, increasing deductibility of the interest on income taxes, two years of free community college.

Some of your opponents in the race support debt-free college and wiping out most, if not all, student debt.

Swalwell made his pitch for why his approach is better and if he thinks it’s fair to eliminate college debt altogether.
