Medical cannabis was the topic of conversation today, at Saint Ambrose University.
A drug policy forum was hosted by the Progressive Action for the Common Good. Its goal is to educate those about medical cannabis in Iowa, and the need for more dispensaries.
The group says, marijuana is effective treatment for medical issues like cancer, chronic pain, and arthritis.
One speaker tells local 4 news, more needs to be done in Iowa to make these treatments accessible.
“We only have five dispensaries we’re a very rural state with 99 counties and we need to dramatically expand the number of dispensaries,” says Shelly Servadio, registered cannabis nurse.
The group wants lawmakers to expand qualifying conditions, raise the therapeutic dosage, and reduce the need for decriminalization and harm.
