Augustana College will start work soon on a multi-million dollar expansion to its science building.
College administrators and donors broke ground Thursday morning on the addition to Hanson Hall of Science.
Construction of the almost $8.5 million, four-story building will start this summer.
It should be ready by the fall of 2019.
Administrators said they’ve seen dramatic growth in their science programs and worked with professors to meet the demand.
“They have designed this building with students in mind, so there are spaces for them to research with students, there are flexible classroom spaces. This is a student-centered building designed by Augustana College science faculty,” Augustana College President Steve Bahls said.
Augustana’s president said the project is part of the college’s long-term $150 million expansion and improvement plan. They’re about two-thirds complete with that effort.
