Once daylight hit, that when they found a male in the ditch near the tracks.
Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane said they are not sure whether the victim was hit by the train or was riding on the train and either fell off or jumped off.
He said in situations like this, usually majority of people who have been involved in an incident along the railroad have been familiar with the area.
“We have had incidents through the years that have involved some of those intersections,” said Lane. “They’re not very frequent but we are talking about incidents that involve at train and the train in that area is able to move fairly quickly around 40 mph or maybe even faster,” Lane said. “That usually involves something that is fatal when there’s an incident involving the train in that area.”
The incident is still an ongoing investigation.
The name of the victim will be released 24 hours after the family has been notified.
