UPDATE: Shots were fired in Davenport on Thursday, this time in an area where children often visit.
Local 4 News was first on the scene near the Putnam Museum after the window of a minivan was shattered by gunfire around 2:30 p.m.
Staff inside Children’s Village West said the moment was terrifying.
Neighbors say they heard 4-5 gunshots and we know police recovered at least three shell casings.
No one was hurt, but a minivan and another car not involved were hit by gunfire.
Children’s Village West went on a brief lockdown and when it was lifted, we could hear the announcement that said staff could go home for the day and “hug your kids and do whatever makes you feel okay.”
We are still waiting for more details from Davenport Police about what exactly happened. At this time the investigation is ongoing.
Shots were fired and a vehicle was damaged near the Putnam Museum on Thursday, leading to Children’s Village West and the museum laced on lockdown.
Davenport Police responded to the area of 2200 block of West 13th Street around 2:09 p.m. after a report of gunfire and located casings. No damages or injuries were reported.
Around 2:11 p.m., police responded to the area of 12th and Wilkes Avenue for a second report of gunfire. Officers located a parked vehicle hit by bullets and casings in the street. No injuries were reported.
Children’s Village West was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Detectives are following up on both incidents.
Children’s Village West was placed on lockdown due to shots fired at the corner of 12th and Wilkes, according to the Davenport Community School District’s Dawn Saul.
“All staff and students were moved to classrooms and visitors to the building who were in the parking lot were brought inside immediately,” Saulk said in a news release. “The Davenport Police Department was on the scene within minutes and had the area secured. The lockdown was lifted at 2:40 p.m. Police remained on the scene. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. As always, our staff acted quickly to ensure the safety of our students.”
No arrests have been made, but the lockdown at the Putnam Museum has been lifted. The street remains blocked by police.
