Clock Inc finds a home for QC LGBT Community Center

Clock Inc. finds home for community center

A home away from home is how teens describe a new community center opening for LGBT youths.

Local 4 News first reported on the new non-profit Clock Inc. early this year.

It formed in late 2018 with the primary goal of opening an LGBT community and resource center.

That is located on 24th Street in Rock Island off of 4th Avenue.

Chase Norris got the idea while hosting group counseling sessions for LGBT youths and took their insights into developing the organization.

He told Local 4 News the center has activities and officer counseling services, but the primary goal is to have a safe space where teens can go and meet and make friends with similar backgrounds.

“None of them go to the same school,” Norris said of the group he counseled Thursday night. “So they never would have had that opportunity to build connections and a support system and without Clock Inc that never would have happened and now they’re a support for one another.”

Local 4 News also spoke with two teens who said this type of center would have been a good resource for them as they were considering their identity.

“I’m glad that I have friends and family that understand, but if I had this place when I was first finding out about myself I know that it would have been wonderful to have in my life and to help,” said Jay Olson.

Kayla Olson said, “You have friends, you’ll meet new people so if you’re very shy, you get to experience what everyone else is going through. You get to play games with everybody, talk to people. This is really going to be a really safe place.”

Norris said the main thing the center is looking for right now is furniture to be donated to them.

People can reach out to the organization’s Facebook page or website if they want to help.
