Crowds are expected to top 20,000 at the Mississippi Valley fair on Thursday night for country star Toby Keith’s Grandstand performance.
Many people came out to the fairgrounds early to claim their spot in line.
JoAnn Brown lives in Davenport and had been waiting since 10:30 a.m.
“I’ve been coming here to the fair since 1997. He came that year but I let my daughter have the ticket, I didn’t really know him that well. Buy when he came in 2013 I really liked him and when I heard him I said, I’m coming. I’m taking the week off work and I’m coming,” Brown says.
Others, including Bernadine Brewer, had been waiting in line the moment the fairgrounds opened– 5:00 a.m.
“When we used to be able to have the canopies we used to camp all night long out here. So now they let us in about 5:00 in the morning, so most of these people come in at five,” says Brewer.
She says she passes the time eating, napping and getting to know other fans.
