Davenport police connected with the community in the spirit of Thanksgiving on Thursday.

Officers hosted their 33rd annual festive dinner at the Handicapped Development Center.

They served turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

The president of the Davenport Police Association said he’s happy to see the same faces every year.

“It’s a solid reminder that simple things in life should make us happy and happiness is within each of us if we’re just looking in the right places,” Sgt. Eric Gruenhag said. “Just a fabulous reminder of what life is really about and what’s important.”

The ninth annual trivia night to raise money for the dinner takes place tonight at 7.

That’s at the Golden Leaf Conference Center.

Cops and Cones as well as the Christmas toy drive also help pay for the dinner.
