Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying the exact cause of death of a Coal Valley man who died following a snowmobile accident.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson tells Local 4 News they want to talk with anyone who might have seen 32-year old Keith Camfield in the five hours before his death.

Camfield flipped a snowmobile he had just purchased while riding it Monday night near the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and U.S. Route 150 in Moline.

Gustafson said autopsy results were inconclusive, but they do know that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Temperatures and wind chill factors were well below zero at the time of the crash, but because Camfield was riding alone, they aren’t sure when the crash happened or how long he was exposed to the elements.

First responders arrived around 8 p.m. The coroner hopes to learn more from toxicology report which may take a couple weeks to process.

If you have any information on Camfield’s whereabouts prior to the crash, you are asked to contact Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson’s office during business hours at 309-558-3640.
