MOLINE, Illinois - A group of disabled veterans are not letting their misfortunes stop them from taking on the mighty Mississippi.
The group is motoring down the river to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Their pontoon boat first launched in St. Paul, Minnesota. It made a quick stop at Marquis Harbor in Moline on Saturday, July 7.
The group has raised more than $20,000. Marine Corps Veteran Bob Sistok, is aiming for about 5 times that.
"Cancer has eaten up my family," says Sistok. "And St. Judes is a wonderful group. It took off with a bang. Literally, while we've been here, boats over here have already checked out our story on our phones, and are donating money."
Sistok says the group is paying for the expedition out of their own pockets, and that every cent raised will go toward St. Jude's cancer research.
