With the wildly popular announcement of Hurts Donut Co. coming to the Quad Cities — which Local 4 News first confirmed for you on Friday — we decided to check on another doughnut franchise that announced plans for a local location.
Local 4 News reached out to Dunkin’ Dounts, which announced plans to build a franchise store in Rock Island back in April. A representative of the company confirmed that the location is still planned, but a construction start date still has not been set.
The chain announced in July it would only open 380 to 450 locations in 2017 instead of the 585 it had planned. Most of the cuts were overseas, but Dunkin’ also scrapped plans for 50 locations in the United States.
As Local 4 News reported in August, the Rock Island store expected to move in next door to CVS Pharmacy on 18th Avenue wasn’t one of them.
Until 1999, a Dunkin’ Donuts was located where Dr. Gyro’s is now, at 2519 18th Avenue.
