Wanetta Tipsword, the mother of missing 16-year-old Emily Tipsword, tells Local Four and Fox 18 News that she has learned people are going around saying they’re are collecting money to find her daughter and it has no connection to her and her family’s effort to locate Emily.
Wanetta said she has never verified anyone to collect donations on their behalf for the search and has reached out to those working with the family to find Emily and said none of them are running this fundraising campaign.
She said they’ve learned a man and a woman have been going to places in downtown Davenport soliciting money.
Wanetta said one of her friends even ran into the two asking to get money. Wanetta said when her friend asked the two for information, they didn’t provide where or how the money would be used.
Emily Tipsword was last seen June 28. She and her family were visiting the Quad Cities after moving to Colorado a few months before to see family and friends.
A friend of Emily has also reached out to Local Four and Fox 18 News and said running away is out of character for the 16-year-old.
