One person is dead after an accident causes a car to burst into flames in rural Galena.
Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene on U.S. Route 20 near West Longhollow Road around 7:45 Friday night. Before they even got to the scene, deputies learned the vehicle was engulfed in flames and the driver was still inside.
When they arrived, deputies broke through the driver’s side window and tried to put out the fire, but were unsuccessful. They found the driver dead inside the car.
After investigating the scene, deputies determined the car was headed east when it left the roadway, went down an embankment, and hit several trees before catching on fire.
The name of the victim is not yet being released and the accident is still under investigation.
