Floatie fight continues: Woman sues Rock Island over waterpark rules

A woman is suing the city of Rock Island over a complaint surrounding the water park.

Cassandra Cleaveland says Whitewater Junction would not let her disabled son swim with his floating ring.

Park managers say the device doesn’t comply with their regulations.

Cleaveland says his floatie is approved by the Coast Guard and that the city violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Cleaveland says it was time to take the case to court after going back and forth with city administrators for almost a year.

“We talked with other resorts and Disney World and they all agreed that that’s an appropriate accommodation and if we were to go to those resorts they would provide that accommodation. The city still refuses to budge,” Cleaveland says.

Cleaveland says she doesn’t want city officials to change their policy, she just wants her son to be accommodated.
