Because of below-zero conditions, the Rock River is at risk of ice jams.
That leaves people on the shores with a flood warning.
“I didn’t want a basement because both of my neighbors have basements, and everything the water comes up, they get ground water that comes up and fills their basement,” says Wayne Mosher, who’s lived on the river for the past three years.
One neighbor tells Local 4, they’re used to the levels getting very high. And there could be challenges if the river doesn’t completely freeze over.
That’s why neighbors on the Rock River look out for each other.
“We’re all river people down here. We all help each other out,” says Mosher. “We’re on a rough road here so we’re always pushing each other out, just doing whatever we can.”
