Friday marks the beginning of the advent season and there’s a special treat for travelers in the Quad Cities. People coming into Iowa on the Centennial Bridge will once again get to enjoy what is becoming a holiday tradition.
The windows of the German American Heritage Museum will become a giant advent calendar with a new window every evening decorated by local students. Executive Director Kelly Lao and Davenport Creative Arts Academy teacher Colleen McCarty-Tomlinson joined us to talk more about how it all gets done. 7th graders from the Creative Arts Academy sketch out the images first, then design them in Adobe Creative Suite. Then the images are sent over to Edwards Creative where they are transferred onto clings that are installed onto the windows. For more on what inspired the giant advent calendar, watch the full interview above.
