Quad Cities kids will have a new place to play this summer.

All week, our Local 4 team has been working with the Quad City Botanical Center to create an outdoor obstacle course for kids called the Garden Gauntlet. It’s part of our parent company Nexstar Broadcasting’s Founder’s Day of Caring.

It took our employees more than 150 hours to build the outdoor children’s play area.

“This is an opportunity to do a project that takes a lot of man hours and a lot of work. And to accomplish it in a very short period of time. Would not have been able to do it without this help,” said Ami Jenkins, Director of the Quad City Botanical Center.

The mission of Nexstar Broadcasting & Local 4 isn’t just to bring you the best local news and weather. It’s also to serve the community. That’s why we’re getting our hands dirty at the Botanical Center.

Local 4’s own Chief Meteorologist Andy McCray headed up the Garden Gauntlet project.

“It’s really been pretty fun this week. We started on Monday and when we started, this was just bare ground. It was really just some grass and that was it. So it will go from unused space here to something people will really look forward to here at the Botanical Center,” said McCray.

The Garden Gauntlet is included with your regular Quad City Botanical Center admission.
