UPDATE: On Friday at 5:21 p.m., the Rock Island Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 900 block of 34th Avenue, a news release says.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of arrival. The fire department remained on scene locating all hot spots and removing smoke from the structure.

Three occupants were home at the time of the fire and all escaped safely.

Staff from the American Red Cross Quad Cities is assisting the family because the house is uninhabitable, the release says.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

The Arsenal Fire Department and the Moline Fire Department provided mutual aid assistance.The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Rock Island Fire Marshal’s Office

EARLIER: Crews battled a structure fire about 5:30 p.m. Friday on the 900 block of 34th Avenue, Rock Island.

Smoke continued to billow from the house at least 20 minutes later, and the cloud of smoke could be seen throughout the neighborhood.

We do not know the cause of the fire or whether anyone was injured. We will stay in contact with firefighters to provide details when they become available.
