UPDATE, October 25, 4:17 p.m. Adrian Rogers has been charged with attempted murder, a Class X-Category A felony, and aggravated battery, a Class 2 felony – Category 2 for an incident in the 1900 block of Morton Drive in East Moline. East Moline Police Officer William Lund sustained serious and life threatening injuries in the incident. Rogers was also charged with aggravated arson, a Class X – Category A felony and residential arson, a Class 1 – Category A felony for a fire reported at a residence in the 1600 block of 12th Street in Rock Island knowing it was occupied at the time.

Rogers is being held in the Rock Island County Jail on $1 million bond (10% applies). This case remains under investigation and further charges may be filed.

EARLIER UPDATE: Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge President Chris Southwood on Tuesday morning issued the following statement regarding the Monday evening on-duty bludgeoning of East Moline Police Sergeant William Lind, a seven-year veteran, who remains in critical condition due to his injuries:

“Sergeant Lind was just doing his job, trying to keep his community safe by arresting an arson suspect, when the encounter turned violent and left the 34-year-old officer clinging to life. William did what he has done his entire career, running toward danger so his fellow citizens could feel safe in their homes.

“Now, William’s wife and children wonder if they will ever see their husband and father alive in their own home again. We ask that all the citizens of East Moline give William and his family the prayers and support they need to get through these terrible times, and to promise anew that violence against police officers will never be tolerated in our society.”

UPDATE: An East Moline police officer was attacked and injured Monday night during an investigation.

This was around 6:30 p.m. on Morton Drive near 19th Street in East Moline. Officials say Sergeant William Lind tried making contact with a Rock Island arson suspect.

According to police, Adrian Rogers attacked Lind before running away. Other officers found Lind unconscious with head injuries. He was hospitalized and his injuries are considered life-threatening.

Just before 11 p.m., Rogers was found in Colona and taken into custody.

In addition to the arson charges, Rogers is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery to a peace officer. He’s now in Henry County Jail on $1 million bond.

EARLIER UPDATE: Police confirmed to Local 4 News that an East Moline officer was attacked and injured Monday night while conducting an investigation.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Morton Drive near 19th Street in East Moline.

The officer’s condition has not been released and neither has any information about the suspect.

EARLIER UPDATE: There’s a heavy police presence in East Moline on Monday night.

Emergency crews from several departments responded to Morton Drive near 19th just after 7 p.m.

Morton Drive is closed for several blocks.

In addition to the East Moline Police Department, the Moline Police Department, the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police are on the scene.
