UPDATE: Davenport Police have identified the victim of the hit-and-run as Eric L. Johnson, 60, of Rock Island.
EARLIER UPDATE: A man hit by a vehicle that left the scene late Monday has died, police say.
Officers, fire crews and Medic EMS responded shortly after 7 p.m. to the 2600 block of Fillmore Lane about an unresponsive person in the street, a news release from Davenport Police Department confirmed.
Responders found a man who had been struck by an unknown vehicle near the 1900 block of North Washington Street and dragged to the 2600 block of North Fillmore Lane where he was discovered by a passerby.
The man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The vehicle fled the scene after it struck him, police say.
The Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call the Davenport Police Department at 563-326-6125, submit an anonymous tip via the “P3 Tips” mobile app or submit a tip online at “qccrimestoppers.com”.
EARLIER: A heavy police presence was in the area of the 2600 block of Fillmore Lane, Davenport, after a hit-and-run and a report of someone lying in the street shortly after 7 p.m.
Police said a man who was hit by a vehicle was taken in critical condition to the trauma center at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme. Officers did not know late Monday what kind of vehicle struck him.
Local 4 News, the first station at the scene, arrived to see police officers talking with several neighbors. An ambulance with emergency lights flashing left the scene and, soon after that, officers began to establish a perimeter with crime-scene tape.
Fillmore was closed at Central Park about 8 p.m. Central Park also was closed between Marquette and Washington streets.
At least 10 squad cars were in the area. Officers searched the street, and examined an object that appeared to be a belt in the middle of the road.
