Rock Island City Council votes to establish 3% sales tax on marijuana

Local News

A voting took place at the Rock Island City Council meeting to unanimously impose a 3% sales tax on recreational marijuana.

Another requirement will be that all businesses that sell cannabis must be located at least 100 feet away from any residential zoning district.

While not all of the council members agreed with bringing marijuana into the city, the revenue that it would generate is undeniable making this an easy decision.
