UPDATE: Theo’s Java Club in downtown Rock Island is shutting its doors after 27 years of business.
The coffee shop on 17th Street — along with the building it’s located in — is being put up for sale.
While owner Theo Grevas says the cafe was able to overcome the economic impact of the pandemic, he’s found another opportunity.
He says the space the shop is located in is a great space for gatherings, but he’s not sure if the next owner will continue the coffee shop.
“You always hope that they can take what we were doing and it’s working and maybe they can add their little twist to it and keep it going,” Grevas said. “It’s a great space for downtown rock island, i always wanted this space to be a community area where you have meetings, and it’s a huge space over here, it’s great.”
The official closing date will be determined soon. Operations will continue as normal until then.
