UPDATE: Body found in Atkinson landfill has been identified

UPDATE: The body has been identified as Jerome R. Coleman II, 59, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

EARLIER UPDATE: The Henry County Coroner announced that an autopsy has been performed on the deceased male found in the landfill in Atkinson on Thursday.

The preliminary report indicates that the victim is African-American, not white, which was the initial description given by the Illinois State Police on Wednesday. He is not from the immediate area.

The death is considered a homicide at this time.

A toxicology report and the notification to next of kin is still pending.

EARLIER STORY: The Henry-Mercer Investigative Task Force is conducting a death investigation after a man’s body was found in the Ecology Solutions landfill in Atkinson, Ill. on Wednesday morning around 9am.

The Illinois State Police, through their participation in the Henry-Mercer Investigative Task Force, is asking for the public’s help to identify the victim.

The subject is a white male that appears to have a bald head. Other identifying features are very limited at this time, but more information will be available after an autopsy is performed on May 21.

The investigation is just getting started so no additional information is available at this time.
