Man charged after woman’s body found; body identified

A man has been charged and the victim identified after a woman’s body was found on a gravel road Sunday.

Damian Hamann, 28, of Morning Sun, Iowa, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and turned himself in on Sunday.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:42 a.m. Sunday to a report of a woman’s body found on 235th Avenue, south of West Point, Iowa, in Lee County.  

She has been identified as Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine.  

EARLIER STORY

A death investigation is underway after a body was discovered in rural Lee County, Iowa.

The sheriff’s office responded earlier Sunday with the help of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Deputies confirm to Local 4 News, it is the body of a white female in her early to mid-20s.

Investigators tell us they are aware of the Mollie Tibbetts case but have no reason to believe at this time that the body is her.

The sheriff’s office isn’t providing any other information, including an exact location where the body was found.
