Man who died after being shot by deputy was 23, not 27


UPDATE: The Davenport man who died Tuesday after being shot by a Scott County deputy was 23.

The Davenport Police Department previously reported Robert Mitchell was 27. His date of birth has been confirmed as July 27, 1995. 


According to the Davenport Police Department, Robert Mitchell, 27, of Davenport died in the hospital. No further information has been released at this time.


The Scott County deputy and the man he shot have been identified by the Davenport Police Department.

The deputy involved in this incident is Greg Hill, a 10-year veteran of the department.

Robert Mitchell, 27, of Davenport is in critical condition with a gunshot wound.

The incident is being investigated by the Davenport Police Department and Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI). 


The person that was shot by Scott County deputy was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on social media while Local 4 News continues to gather information at the scene.


We are still gathering information on a deputy involved shooting this morning in Davenport.

 A Scott County deputy attempted a traffic stop at the 6500 block of Brady Street. A struggle ensued, and shots were fired by the deputy. The car fled the scene, finally stopping near the intersection of Division Street and Kimberly Road.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for a gunshot wound. No word on the extent of the injuries. The deputy was not injured, we will continue to follow this story and bring you updates as they come in.
