Dozens of mayors from the Greater Mississippi area gathered today in Davenport for the Mississippi River Cities and Town Initiative.

The initiative is centered around the plastic waste footprint of the Mississippi River.
All 30 mayors pledged to reduce about  20% of the plastic waste in the river by the year 2020.
The river not only provides drinking water for more than 20 million people but also is responsible for transporting 40% of the nation’s agriculture output.
Mayors from all sides agreed that completing this initiative will take efforts from all states surrounding the mighty river.
