Moline prepares to announce city administrator pick as another position opens up

News

There’s another vacancy at Moline City Hall. Economic Development Director Ray Forsythe submitted his resignation today.

Forsythe has held the position for 14 years. He’s leaving to be the city administrator for Washington, Illinois.

This comes as Moline looks for its own city administrator and a police chief. Mayor Stephanie Acri said they won’t begin the search for Forsythe’s replacement until the city administrator role is filled, but they will be ready to name their pick for administrator on Friday.

The previous administrator resigned in January while the city was looking at finalists for a new police chief, which put that search on hold. Acri said it’s because the administrator usually oversees searches.

The city council will vote on the city administrator pick next Tuesday. If they approve the candidate, he or she will wrap up the search for police chief.

Acri said they took a different approach to filling the city administator position.

“Instead of doing the call for all candidates, we went after candidates that we were interested in that met what we thought had the right skill set for our position,” she said. “We would like to have that position stable so we can rebuild the team.”

Forsythe said he was not ready to do an interview, but Acri says he’s been interested in becoming a city administrator for a while.
