Moline wants your help to cut down on crime

Moline Mayor Stephanie Acri is looking to the community for suggestions when it comes to cutting down on crime.

She held a question and answer event at the Moline Police Department this afternoon.

The city’s interim police chief John Hitchcock and Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities detective Jon Leach were on hand.

Hitchcock said they’ve seen an uptick recently in violent crimes and retail theft.

“We have a lot of vandalism and we have a lot of theft,” Hitchcock said. “Could almost call us the retail theft capital of the Quad Cities due to our John Deere corridor. And usually that leads into worse things. Usually retail theft is committed by people that may be addicted to drugs and choose to feed their habit.”

Hitchcock said it’s crucial for people in the community pay attention and take notes if they see anything suspicious, adding that officers can’t be everywhere at once — but people can call police to share what they saw.
