Bettendorf, IA - Police are releasing more information about an accident Tuesday morning at 23rd street and State Street in Bettendorf.
The investigation reveals a 2000 Oldsmobile driven by Jonathan Talbot, a 35-year-old from East Moline, was traveling south on 23rd Street.
Talbot failed to obey a traffic control signal and entered the intersection on a red light. Upon entering the intersection Talbot drove his vehicle into the driver’s side of the trailer being pulled by a 2014 Mack semi-truck traveling eastbound on State Street.
The semi-truck and trailer was operated by Larry Larson, a 59-year-old from Davenport.
A news release from Bettendorf Police says Talbot’s vehicle sustained severe damage as it struck the trailer and passed under it. Talbot’s vehicle exited the passenger side of the trailer and continued traveling southbound. Talbot’s vehicle then drove off the roadway and struck various fixtures on the side of the roadway, including a stop light support post, a concrete planter and a fence.
Talbot is listed in stable condition at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
The accident resulted in an approximately 30 minute closure of eastbound State Street.
