The driver of a pickup truck died when he crashed into the back of a turning semi on U.S. Highway 30 on Thursday.
Deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision around 4:17 p.m. in the 3700 block of westbound U.S. 30, just west of the Low Moor overpass.
Deputies discovered a white pickup truck that had collided with the rear of a semi-tractor trailer which was turning into a farm driveway. The pickup was occupied by one man, who was dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured.
Deputies closed U.S. 30 and routed traffic onto 380th Avenue. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy. The name will be released once family members are notified.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Low Moor Volunteer Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa DOT, Genesis Ambulance and the Clinton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
