River rescue ends as man found alive

UPDATE: Local 4 News has learned the man missing was a diver.  He left the water and went home.  The man saw news reports and called police to tell them he was alive.

UPDATE: Police tell Local 4 News they came to the park for a welfare check after a report of a man walking in the water about waist-deep. When they arrived, police say they thought they thought they saw a head go under the water.

They have been looking for the man ever since. It is still an active rescue effort, but many conditions are working against the crews — the wind is picking up and temperatures are dropping.

EARLIER UPDATE

The Moline Fire Department is conducting a rescue on the Rock River near the Green Valley Sports Complex.

“Icy conditions are making this an extremely challenging rescue,” and asks that people “please avoid the area if possible,” according to a post on social media.

Local 4 News has a crew at the scene and will provide more details as they become available.
