Firefighters say a simply closing the door could have a life-saving impact during a fire.
The finding comes after 10 years of research by the UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute.
It’s lead the group to create the Close Your Door safety initiative.
The group found that modern synthetic construction materials, home furnishings, and contemporary home layouts allow fire to spread and become toxic faster than ever before.
About 40 years ago, you had 17 minutes to escape a fire, research indicates.
Now, you have about three minutes.
A closed door can also mean reducing the room temperature from 1,000 degrees down to 100 degrees during a fire.
