ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Jumer’s Casino and Hotel awarded the single largest promotional cash prize in its 25-year history Thursday.
Emily Huff-Ellis of Rock Island won $61,000 participating in the casino’s weekly promotional Jumbo Jackpot Giveaway!
The previous largest amount awarded was just 6 months ago when Michael Paul of Muscatine, Iowa, won $44,000 in the Jumbo Jackpot Giveaway.
Jumbo Jackpot was introduced on April 6, 2017 with a starting top prize of $500. Since then, guests of Jumer’s earn weekly entries for drawings held every half hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Guests can also win up to 1000 free entries on Thursdays prior to 8 p.m. At each drawing time, one winner spins two Jumbo Jackpot reels on an oversized replica of a slot machine. A third reel remains stationary.
If a winner doesn’t match the stationary reel with either of the two other reels, they win $50 in Free Play. If they match the symbol on the third stationary reel with one of the two other reels, they win $100 in Free Play. But, if they match the third reel with both of the two other reels, they win the Jumbo Jackpot.
Since the last Jumbo Jackpot was won last August, it has since been building $2,500 per week. On Thursday night, the starting top prize was $59,500. At 6 p.m. the first contestant failed to match the 3 reels and was awarded $50 Free Play.
Another $500 was added to the top prize amount. At the next two drawings at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., both winners failed to spin for a match and each was awarded $50 Free Play. And, after each drawing another $500 was added to the total bringing it to $61,000 when Huff-Ellis was selected as the 7:30 p.m. winner. She successfully spun the two reels and matched the third reel symbol and won the cash prize award of $61,000.
After the jackpot was won, $500 became the starting Jumbo Jackpot prize. The 8 p.m. winner did not match all 3 reels, so the starting Jumbo Jackpot Giveaway prize now stands at $1,000 for next Thursday’s drawings.
