Saint Louis native traveling down Mississippi River with a purpose.

News

A Saint Louis native is fulfilling his dream of canoeing the entire Mississippi River while helping those in need. But first he’s stopping in the Quad Cities.

Erik put his life on hold to set sail on this 90 day adventure to not only raise money for those in need but also to fulfill one of his childhood dreams.

Erik  is on day 38 of his  journey down the river.

He was formally the president of his rotary club in cape coral where the organization ShelterBox is its global project partner for disaster relief..

Money raised will go towards ShelterBox packages for those in need that will  provide an emergency household tent, blankets, solar lights, cookware and more.

Throughout his journey he has stopped to speak to people about his mission.
He shares with Local 4 a piece of advice he would like to share.

“What I would encourage people to do is whatever your dream is, if you have a childhood dream, do it. Just make it a point and do it because you’ll be happy you did”, says Erik.

So far he has raised about $40,000 for ShelterBox.
