The old bridge between Savanna and Sabula was demolished today.
The charges were set off at around 10:30 this morning.
You can see the scaffolding collapse into the river below.
Train and highway traffic was temporarily shut down for safety precautions.
Dozens of people were there to witness the explosion.
"Our son is working on the bridge all summer long and we came to see it fall. It was worth it, unexpected in a way, but kind of an amazing feeling," Norman Myers of Sterling, Illinois.
Crews will be working around the clock to ensure barge traffic can be restored early next week.
