A free band workshop was hosted in Rock Island on Saturday.
The Second Baptist Church’s Music and Arts Academy along with St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Band put together the event.
Students had the opportunity to listen to student performers, participate in a music petting zoo, where they could try out the instruments.
There was also a drumline clinic and performance from the Quad City Metro Drill Team.
Organizers say their goal is to engage young kids in music.
They say the take away is nothing but positive.
“Self-confidence, teamwork, having pride in themselves and just having pride in being part of a group. Having a sense of excellence, and just having the joy of music is just wonderful,” says Rev. Carmen Ausborn.
The Music and Arts Academy offers low cost and even free classes to kids in the community.
Those range from music, voice and even dance.
They will be hosting a recital on May 6, 2018.
The public is invited to attend.
