Crews are working to put out a semi tractor-trailer that’s on fire on westbound I-74 near Galesburg.
Traffic headed toward the Quad Cities is backed up at mile marker 36.
As a result, Interstate 74 will be closed to westbound traffic from mile marker 46 (Galesburg) to mile marker 32 (Woodhull).
All westbound traffic will be re-routed at milepost 46 to westbound U.S. Highway 34, northbound U.S. Highway 150, eastbound Illinois Route 17 and back to westbound I-74.
UPDATE, 5:00 p.m.
State police tell Local 4 News Interstate 74 will be closed to westbound traffic from Galesburg to Woodhull due to the Semi fire.
Authorities say all westbound traffic will be will be re-routed at milepost 46 to U.S. Hwy 34. Westbound on U.S. Hwy 34 to U. S. Route 150. Northbound on U.S. Route 150 to Illinois Route 17. Eastbound on Illinois Route 17 to I 74 westbound.
UPDATE, 9:23 p.m.
Interstate 74 westbound is now open from mile marker 46 to mile marker 32 and normal traffic has resumed.
