Shenanigans denied (again): Aldermen deem pub public safety threat

News

A well-known bar in Davenport got dealt another setback from the city.

Aldermen unaniously denied Shenanigans’ application for an outdoor liquor license during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day event.

Davenport’s assistant police chief, Jeffery Bladel, spoke against the pub’s motion at Wednesday night’s city council meeting.

He says no other bar in the city has as many fights among large groups of people.

Bladel says the department got 12 disturbance calls from the pub over the last six months.

He showed video of one of the most recent incidents that happened just this month.

Dozens of people spilled out of the streets to watch a fight.

Bladel says Shenanigans is a staffing and public safety issue for his department.

This isn’t the Irish pub’s first run-in with city leaders and law enforcement.

In March of last year, a man pointed a handgun inside the pub.

The business also had its liquor license revoked in 2015 after some arrests and a couple of stabbings.
