Solar electric plant in Knox County off the table

A plan for a solar electric plant in Knox County is off the table for now, after neighbors voiced opposition to the plan.

A California company, Trajectory Energy Partners approached Ted and Janet Mottas about putting a solar field on a 22-acre piece of property now used for planting corn and soybeans.

The couple held a meeting with neighbors last month and a handful of residents expressed concern about the project based on its proximity to their land and reflections it might cause.

The company has identified several potential locations for projects in Illinois, based on the proximity to substations and high voltage lines.

The company also has locations identified in Marshall and Putnam County and a lease has been signed for land next to the Peoria County Jail.

The company’s interest in Illinois is based on incentives signed into law in 2016 that offer tax credits and loans to companies making solar investments in Illinois.
