Tasty treats meet family tradition at Krumpets Bakery in Fulton

For Fulton, Krumpets Bakery has become the go-to spot for great food and good company.

So Local 4 News decided to check it out for ourselves during this week’s Community Spotlight special report.

Originally opened in Clinton, Owner Renee Holmes says she moved her restaurant across the Mississippi to Fulton several years ago, and it quickly became a local favorite

One of the things visitors like most, is the bakery’s back story.

“I’ve been doing this since I was probably 12,” said Holmes. “I stood on a pickle barrell and washed dishes for my mom.”

At Krumpets, hard work is the main ingredient.

“Absolutely everything from scratch,” she said. “If it’s the sauce, the bread you make your sandwiches with…”

Giving visitors something they can’t get anywhere else.

Ron Koehn is a regular at Krumpets and says with all the attractions in Clinton, it’s nice to bring people from Clinton to Fulton for a change.

“It’s a great addition to our community,” said Koehn. “I enjoy coming here for breakfast for lunch, I love desserts but especially pie. And they have pies to die for here.”

But Holmes’ favorite par is the people.

“They really and truly are my friends here,” she said.

The only person missing is her mom.

“She’s been gone 5 years now but she lives on in here,” said Holmes with a smile.

She says her mom is remembered in the decorations, pointing out antique plates on the walls, and in the family recipes.

“I make the same cinnamon rolls that I made for my mom 30 years ago.”

And most of all, she lives on through doing what they love each day.

“She was my greatest cheerleader,” said Holmes. “She would’ve been dancing on the table.”

Today, there’s still a mother-daughter duo in the kitchen.

“My mom and I were so close, and to have my daughter here working with me, it doesn’t get any better.”

Mixing old memories with the new, creating the perfect recipe to keep Fulton coming back for more.
